    CESPA Bargaining Update

On October 29, the county finally brought a counterproposal to the table — and it was nothing short of insulting.

Here’s what we proposed back in September:

Pay for Professional Development After Hours
Nursing Certification Incentive – Increase in hourly wage

Transportation Department – Routing staff would receive driver pay at their current step while driving for the county.

Painters and Small Engine Repair Employees - Move Painters (5 employees) and Small Engine Repair Technicians (2 employees) from M22 to M23 on the salary schedule.

Data Management Specialists - Move Data Management Specialists (5 employees) from B32 to T32 on the salary schedule.

Step Advancement and Hourly Increase for Support Employees - All support employees with an evaluation for the 2024–2025 school year would advance one step on the salary schedule for 2025–2026.
Additional Hourly Increase for All - An additional $0.25 per hour increase for all support staff employees with an evaluation for the 2024–2025 school year.

And what did the district offer in return?

Two hours. That’s right — just two hours of paid time for professional development done outside of contract hours, and only for employees who work fewer than 188 days.

    No step advancement.
    No hourly increase.
No recognition for the people who keep our schools clean, safe, and running every single day.

The district’s counterproposal sends a clear message: they do not value their support employees. While CESPA continues to fight for fair pay and respect, the county has once again failed to meet even the most basic expectations of equity and appreciation.

Our members deserve better — and we’re not backing down.

Everyone should attend the School Board Meeting on November 6 and let the board know exactly how you feel about this proposal! Your voice matters, and together we can show the district that CESPA employees will not be ignored.

Also, plan to attend the next bargaining meeting. The date and time will be announced soon. Your presence and support make a difference at the table.
